Maryland Christian Saints wins 2010 NHFA National Championship
The unbeaten Maryland Christian Saints (14-0) left no doubt that they are the National Champions of the National Homeschool Football Tournament as they defeated the formerly undefeated North Georgia Falcons (11-1) 35-2 in the Championship Game and the Lighthouse Christian Chargers 38-6 in the Semifinals. Led by Quarterback Christian DiPaola and WR Jed Yousefi, the Saints passing game was almost unstoppable against both the Falcons and the Chargers while the defense shut out North Georgia and only allowed a 4th quarter touchdown to Lighthouse Christian. The Saints won their Mid-Atlantic Christian Conference last Saturday, then travelled to Panama City Beach, Florida to take on teams from Georgia (North Georgia Falcons) and Missouri (Lighthouse Christian Chargers).

Lighthouse Christian defeat North Georgia to win JH Championship
by Gordon Thigpen (Falcons player)
The NHFA Junior High Championship between the North Georgia JH Falcons and the Lighthouse Christian Academy Chargers was the last game for the Falcons in the 2010 season, and what a great game to end it on. The Chargers are from Springfield, Missouri, and came into the game as the defending NHFA national champions. The game turned out to be a good one.
The Chargers received the ball first and immediately went to work, scoring on a touchdown run by Drew Compton. The two point conversion was no good. The Falcons then drove to within the Charger 10, but turned the ball over on downs at the seven. The Chargers then took a knee to end the half. The Chargers had 6 – 0 lead at half.
North Georgia received the ball first in the second half on their own 33, but had to punt soon after. The Chargers drove into Falcon territory, only to be intercepted by Falcon cornerback Austin Rothenburger. The teams traded punts early in the fourth quarter. With 5:13 left in the game, the Falcons geared up for a final drive. The Falcons drove to the Charger 23, but turned the ball over on a fumble. The Chargers then ran the time out. The final score in this defensive struggle was Chargers – 6, Falcons – 0. Both teams played hard, and it was fun to watch. It was an excellent tournament, and we look forward to next year.

Maryland regained momentum on the very next play when Alex Dowling returned the kickoff for a touchdown. The Saints successfully faked a kick for the two-point conversion. The first half ended with the Saints leading 15 – 6.
North Georgia opened the second half with a long drive capped by a half-yard touchdown run by halfback Tevon Valdez. Cody Ricketts was good on the two-point conversion to make it 15-14. After a successful onside kick, the Falcons took the lead with a 19 yard TD run by Cody Ricketts. Ricketts also was able to get into the end zone for the two-point conversion to give the Falcons the lead at 22-15. Maryland scored in the fourth quarter using a reverse pass. The two-point attempt was good giving the lead back to the Saints 23-22. The Falcons took the lead for good on the very next drive with a five yard touchdown run by Austin Rothenburger. The Saints stopped the Falcons on the two-point attempt, however, the Saints could do not score again. The game ended with a 28 – 23 victory for the Falcons.
